They were adopting their four year old grand daughter and were having a celebration to commemorate the event. <br>
Well, I have a five year old, so it wasn't hard for me to imagine what little girls that age like. Of course, princesses were at the top of the list. So I started scouring the internet for ideas. <br>
I didn't know if the card was for the grandparents or the four year old. So Jodi decided we should do one for both. In the end, this is what I came up with. </p>

Here is the last of my baby cards for a while. I think I have enough on hand. I love the Mother Goose poem paper. And the striped paper. And the chevron paper. Okay, I love it all. The tiny safety pin works well with the baby theme too. I used the fancy capital letter off the Nursery Rhyme cartridge for the "B". I simply bumped it to the edge of the mat and then used scissors to trim the curly cue portion that I couldn't completely eliminate.</div>

So my cute baby paper got me on a roll. Well, mass production always helps get a bunch done too =) Here are more elephant cards. Everyone seems to be having girls right now but I'm sure that will change soon and I'll be happy to have the boy cards in my stash.</div>

<span style="background-color: white; color: #3f3f3f; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, san-serif, Roboto; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16.25px; text-align: left;">I had a baby shower to attend last night so of course, I needed a card. </span><span style="background-color: white; color: #3f3f3f; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, san-serif, Roboto; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16.25px; text-align: left;">I have had two pads of cute baby paper waiting for me to use. But when looked at my Pinterest board not many of the cards I'd pinned used patterned paper. So when I finally found a couple designs I liked, I made a few.</span></div>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #3f3f3f; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, san-serif, Roboto; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16.25px; text-align: left;"></span><br />

I only had a striped Kraft one on hand and no colored tissue paper to dress it up. I was running late so didn't have time to stop and grab one either. While I was getting ready, it hit me that I had cellophane card bags. So why not let more than just the mom-to-be enjoy the card?! I thought it turned out super cute and definitely need to remember this for future gifts.</span></div>

I made this card by running my small star die through the machine three times. Then I used the negative space instead of the actual cut out stars. Instead of my usual heavy white cardstock, this one is actually a lighter weight cream with a slight texture. It works fine because the layers on the front are small and minimal. Black and white twine and the subtle pattern red star add just the punch needed to make this card pop.</div>

Using a small star die inside a large star, I created open stars for this fun-for-any-age card. I used my scoring board to add subtle lines to the white layer. Matching buttons, lightweight string and a tiny tag greeting finished off the simplistic, clean look. And did you catch the visual triangle (small green stars?)</div>

Another versatile greeting on a non-gender specific card. Could be used for get well, thinking of you or birthday. I used one line of atg adhesive to stick the strips to my Creative Memories cutting mat. Then I used the CM circle cutter to cut the circles out of the strips. I cut circles from the plain paper and trimmed slightly to make "buttons" that would fit inside the spaces. My 1/16" served as button holes. Hemp twine around the project added a bit of a rustic touch and some texture.</div>

Masculine birthday cards are hard. But who doesn't love gifts? And stars are as much a fall back for guys as flowers for women. I got to utilize some hard-to-use papers. And the lightly patterned paper looks pretty cool when embossed.</div>

I have had this card on my Pinterest board for awhile and saved to my phone for almost as long. It is so simple and yet the large candle makes a big statement. Combined with the matting in the same paper and it's a win. Double win when you realize it took longer to find a paper that works than it did to assemble the card. I really wanted to use polka dotted paper but I didn't have one with random dots...only uniform and I didn't think that would give the same look. So I opted for this fun piece. I cut the angle on the candle as well as the flame freehand, but I'm sure if that thought freaks you out, you could find one on a cricut cartridge. The gems add sparkle, a bit of depth and texture.</div>

This card was made at the request of my daughter, who was attending a personal bridal shower for her friend. I had paint chips at my disposal from having painted the girl's bedrooms over Spring Break. I made two cards, not sure what greeting my daughter preferred. And I used the colors from every other sample, therefore one card has darker has a darker feel to it. I used a small amount of glue down the center of each butterfly so the wings could "lift up" a bit.</div>

When I use strips of paper to give a bookmark look, I like to leave them loose at the bottom. I feel like this adds depth and really shows off the "bookmarky" feel.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On these cards, I paper pierced the tag simply by following centimeter marks on my ruler.</div>

I purchased two paper pads that sat on my desk for a very long time. I still don't feel like I've used them to their maximum potential. But I loved the cheery colors and the designs on the paper. Since I didn't have a specific occassion in mind to make these cards for, I decided the "for you" greeting would work on the front and then I could make it fit the occasion when I use them and add my inside sentiment. It could be "for you...to cheer you", "for you...on your birthday", "for you...just because", "for you...to get well", etc. It was a also a win because it utilized the remaining titles I cut and didn't use from my friend's special card (see previous post). Oh, and by the way, I forgot to mention in that previous post that I actually cut two sets of paper for that card because I wasn't sure which direction I wanted to pursue. So, that's why the middle photo below looks oddly familiar (but notice I didn't handstitch on it...another test run using paper piercing which I didn't like nearly as much as stitching).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Back to this post...the cards with the tags below show a really neat way to use a short scrap of ribbon when there isn't quite enough to tie. And I like to bump the ribbon up to show depth, so I use a small glue dot to hold the ribbon in place.</div>

<span style="background-color: white; color: #3f3f3f; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, san-serif, Roboto; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16.25px;">This photo certainly doesn't do this card justice. But if you can overlook that for a minute I will tell you about this special card. A few times a year, I have a card that I make for a really special person. Special because they know a lot about me and love me anyway. Special because these few people not only appreciate me, they appreciate my fervor for crafting. Special because they will pay attention to all the little details that I took extra time putting into a masterpiece just for them...to let them know how much I think of them. For these few cards, I </span><span style="background-color: white; color: #3f3f3f; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, san-serif, Roboto; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16.25px;">make sure the papers and colors are exactly what I want...even to the point of cutting out four sets of the "for you" sentiment to see how each color looks. On this card, I punched and traded three sets of the butterflies back and forth several times before I decided which one evoked the exact emotion and feel I was going for. All of this takes time that may seem senseless to most. But because I know that this card will most likely be tucked away in a night stand and then brought out and looked at again and again over the course of the year, I want everything to be as close to perfect as possible. Because the recipient of this card is my best friend.</span></div>

A family friend had a double hip replacement and I was headed out the door to sit with his wife (one of my besties) during surgery. All the get well cards in my stash were flowery. So I pulled up this quick design from my Pinterest board. I knew immediately that the Americana/travel pad I had purchased from Hobby Lobby would be perfect. It was finished quicker than I would have found a parking space, walked in the store, located a card that was the right design with the right message and the right price, paid and walked out again!</div>

I found the idea on Pinterest to send a box chock full of yellow items to someone who was sick or in need of a pick me up. And seriously, if that doesn't cheer you just thinking about it, there's something wrong!<br />
So my girls and I went on a treasure hunt. We got most of our stuff at Party City. That store is awesome for something like this because you don't have to buy a whole package of one item...you can buy just a few pieces of a variety of things. Besides, they have super cool little party favors =)<br />
And of course, a sunshiny package requires a sunshiny card...</div>

I don't do fussy... much. But once in awhile I find a card that is a step up from my usual CAS (clean and simple) style. And I like to step outside the box and try to see if I can achieve it. I really really loved the way these cards turned out. And a card like this is always reserved for someone extra special who will appreciate the time and attention to detail.</div>

I did not get Christmas cards sent out this year. So I was determined to send winter cards to close family and friends, and reciprocate to those who sent us a Christmas card. I started making a few here and there and stock piling them. My desk was covered but it was taking me awhile to get them finished. Long enough, in fact, that I feared winter would end before I got them mailed. <br />
I needn't have worried. Because this was the longest winter we've ever had while living in Indiana! We seriously got our last snow the day before I sent out my final batch of winter cards. And we were never more glad to see spring.</div>

My brother-in-law was very suddenly diagnosed with brain cancer in February. The diagnosis resulted in emergency surgery. We were able to be with the family that day and again on the weekend. But when we returned home, I felt very helpless in bearing my in-laws burden.<br />
The out-pouring of love, support and help from friends and family was amazing. And so it wasn't long until I realized there was one tiny thing I could do from a distance. While my in-laws held bed-side vigils and later spent countless miles traveling back and forth to the rehab facility, I was home making thank you cards. I asked my mother-in-law to send me names along with a short description of what I was to thank them for, as they came to mind.</div>
<div dir="ltr">
Here are samples of the first batch I made:</div>

But it's still in there! The book mark paper is scrap as well as the shadows on those and the stars (odds and ends from my kraft card bases).<br />
<br />
I also used a lot more layering on this card than I normally do. I love the looks of layers but when it comes right down to it I rarely do it for two reasons... #1 it takes twice as long #2 it makes the card front a bit bulky and heavy. But with this card, I felt like it needed that extra look.<br />

Card dimensions: 4.5" x 6.25"<br />
Kraft mat: 3 7/16" x 5 3/16"<br />
Embossed mat (herringbone): 3.25" x 5"<br />
Bookmark style strip (long): outer layer, 1" x 4 1/8" and inner layer, 7/8" x 4"<br />
Bookmark style strip (short): outer layer, 1 1/16" x 3 1/4" and inner layer, 15/16" x 3"<br />
Star (from Martha Stewart All Occasions Cake Art): outer, 1.95" x 179" and inner layer, 1.75" x 1.61"<br />
<br />
Honestly, I think it took my longer to measure and type the bookmark dimensions than it did to cut them! Basically, I eye-balled the dimensions and cut my patterned scrap down to size, then added two marks (an eighth of an inch) on my trimmer for the shadows.<br />

I did two takes because I was going for a masculine/boyish look and didn't succeed with my first try - pink and flowers don't work for most men, lol! I am actually much happier with my second set for two reasons. #1 I made the mat smaller, allowing more of the card base to show. #2 I used a dark card base and I think it looks much better that way. So...here is take one:<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggSRc_Cd8SkzbYo9B0u_2PgvCz304qtSJdgbkflLc1ebZCWPEOFiU9yWdRlqm5VsC4DgfLV62HwOHJzu6ljy7j8cGKhNFuzsdKacNmwJKQ2Ifsd5-dixutImyxsimQwmeZXh5ogLqR-la8/s1600/IMG_0025+%2528800x600%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggSRc_Cd8SkzbYo9B0u_2PgvCz304qtSJdgbkflLc1ebZCWPEOFiU9yWdRlqm5VsC4DgfLV62HwOHJzu6ljy7j8cGKhNFuzsdKacNmwJKQ2Ifsd5-dixutImyxsimQwmeZXh5ogLqR-la8/s320/IMG_0025+%2528800x600%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

And take two will follow the dimensions--</div>

Colored mat: 4 1/8" x 4 1/8"<br />
White mat: 4" x 4"<br />
Partial circles: 2" trimmed to .75" high<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I placed, adjusted then adhered my circles. Then I stamped my sentiment while the surface with still flat. Last, I went back and added a strip of glue and ran my twine, wrapping it along the back and taping the edges with good old scotch tape to hold it in place on the back.</div>
